Nile Party fires campaign manager for doing his job

We at FDB more than amused that the bigots at the CDP have sacked their campaign manager for doing precisely what Fred Nile himself has done for years- vilifying Muslims.

This is not to say that the anti-Muslim ’survey’ was the smartest political stunt to pull- you’d have thought that Nile & CDP would have caught a clue that this wasn’t a vote-getter after the vitriolic public response to the fake Muslim leaflet affair run on behalf of Liberal candidate Karen Chijoff in 2007. But noooooo…

The Bradfield byelection in December did not go well for the Christian Democratic Party, thanks largely to criticism of its anti-Muslim “survey” and its tactic of running nine candidates for the seat. The man the party blamed for its bad press was its then campaign manager, Michael Darby, who it claimed issued the survey without the party authorisation and who has since lost his job. Now, following a meeting on Saturday, the president, Fred Nile, says the party has learned from the experience. Yesterday his office issued a press release declaring that the meeting ”rejected any future attempt to have multiple CDP candidates in the one electorate, or any further ‘push poll surveys”’.

Anonymous racist cowards drop anti-immigration leaflets in Balmain

The Life in Chippendale blog reports:

“They” are at it in Balmain

image: Life in Chippendale

Our anonymous friends who enjoy the odd letter drop (see Kris’ post in November 09) made their mark on Balmain this morning.

I for one am disappointed that this rubbish is still being distributed en masse in Sydney suburbs.

Racists love padding up the figures. The actual number of migrants to Australia in the last 4 years is 211,800, per DiAC.

Also, from the SMH:

Outrage over anti-immigration leaflet
ROSIE LEWIS
January 22, 2010

ANTI-IMMIGRATION leaflets posted in letterboxes in the inner-west have outraged ethnic community leaders and a senior Federal Government official.

The leaflets read: ”600,000 immigrants arrived in the last 4 years. That’s more than Tasmania. More than Aborigines. More than Newcastle. More than we need.”

They are part of a campaign led by an anonymous group identified only by a triangular design in the bottom right corner of the leaflet.

The chairman of the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Council of Australia, Pino Migliorino, questioned the leaflet’s intentions. “It’s really interesting that in the lead-up to Australia Day you get such vagrant behaviour … It’s a day that’s supposed to unite us and it becomes a day that can manipulate.”

Mr Migliorino said the nation’s leaders should stand up for migrants. “The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister need to take the front foot and show they appreciate migration … What we need to do is actively seek to lessen the incidence of racist violence.”

David Marr on Trad vs 2GB

From the SMH:

No victor in fight over inflammatory talkback

Alan Jones’s legal case over anti-Lebanese comments has been lost, but inflammatory jocks might not change their tune, writes David Marr.

Though a good deal less than a day’s pay for Alan Jones, the $10,000 he and 2GB were ordered to pay last week for vilifying Lebanese in Australia is the first punishment inflicted on either the talkback king or his station for attacks on Lebanese Muslims that reached their depths in the days before the Cronulla riots in the summer of 2005.

Jones and 2GB have been ordered to mend their ways in the past but never punished until a few days before Christmas, when the Administrative Decisions Tribunal of NSW upheld a complaint of racial vilification brought by the Sydney Lebanese identity Keysar Trad. The three-member tribunal ordered Jones and his station to pay damages of $10,000 within 21 days and to prepare over summer a form of apology acceptable to Trad.

Trad has promised the cheque to a Muslim charity: the respite centre run by the Australian Council for Women’s Affairs. It has yet to arrive. Negotiations on the apology have not begun. On past form, Jones seems someone not happy to admit he’s in the wrong. Saying sorry isn’t easy for Alan Belford Jones.

“Klub Naziya” at Humanist House rattles Chippendale locals

Jeering crowd blocks meeting of extreme right

November 15, 2009

AN EXTREME right-wing group sparked anti-fascist protests after it was revealed it had been holding meetings in a Humanist Society hall in inner Sydney.

The Public Information Forum – also known as Klub Nation or Klub Naziya – was prevented from meeting on November 6 after about 50 protesters gathered at the Shepherd Street address in Chippendale.

Police were called to an earlier demonstration in October when protesters yelling “Nazis out” attempted to disrupt the meeting by banging on doors and windows.

“If they get the message that they are not welcome in Chippendale and move somewhere else we will follow them,” an online post from one protester read.

The group was banned from using the hall by the Humanist Society once before because of alleged racist associations.

David Duffy, the Humanist Society member responsible for bookings at the hall, said the group of about 30 young men had been meeting peacefully there for about eight years. He conceded the group was “right of centre” but said he did not believe it was a neo-Nazi group.

“The sort of people who attend [Mr Rafty's] meetings would be considered conspiracy theorists to a certain extent,” he said.

“They run a series of discussion groups on political and geopolitical themes. It’s invitation-only. It’s not a thing where they advertise publicly. They don’t do any interface with the community in any way.”

An anonymous letterbox drop of the area calling on residents to “do something about” Australia’s high level of immigration coincided with last week’s protest.

Neo-nazi graffiti not ours: Saleam

Now, why the devil would newsies go asking Australia First’s head cheese Jim Saleam about neo-nazi graffiti? Inconceivable!

From the SMH:

not a nazi, not me, no sireeNeo-Nazi graffiti on Roozendaal home
Brian Robins
August 17, 2009

GRAFFITI daubed on the home of the NSW Treasurer, Eric Roozendaal, is believed to have been done by a group that has links to neo-Nazis.

An unknown group painted ”88” on his eastern suburbs home, on the footpath and on the house of a neighbour at the weekend. Among far right-wing groups, the number 88 is taken to represent HH, shorthand for Heil Hitler.

Police are investigating.

Mr Roozendaal refused to speak to the Herald about the incident, but a spokesman for him said he ”will not be intimidated and will continue to speak out against groups preaching hatred and division”.

Mr Roozendaal has had a longstanding dispute with the extreme right-wing group Australia First, stemming from his days at Macquarie University, where he had the group banned from campus.

Mr Roozendaal, a former state secretary of the ALP, negotiated in July with the Labor Party’s national secretary to guarantee no Labor electoral preferences would go to Australia First.

At the time, Mr Roozendaal said One Nation gained a foothold in Queensland due to one factor: Coalition preferences.

Mr Roozendaal’s spokesman said it was notable that the attack took place a month after the Treasurer’s public comments about blocking any preference flow from the Labor Party to Australia First.

Jim Saleam, of Australia First, denied the incident had anything to do with his group.

”It has been done by provocateurs; if it has not been done by criminal groups,” Mr Saleam said.

Terrie-Anne Verney : Take the Money And Run

I feel sorry for Darrin Hodges sometimes.

Well, not really. But still.

In July, a racist dingbat named Terrie-Anne Verney was sacked from her job as a sales rep for Griffith FM community radio station 2MIA. Terrie-Anne’s dismissal followed hot on the heels of her exposure as a racist (Multicultural radio presenter linked to anti-immigration Facebook groups, Asher Moses, The Age, July 2, 2009). In solidarity, Darrin — the face of the ‘Australian Protectionist Party’ (APP) — organised to raise a sum of money to donate to Terrie-Anne. Over a two-week period, over $400 was raised (or at least that’s what Darrin wrote on the Facebook page for the group ‘Fuck Off, We’re Full’) which sum Darrin dutifully transferred to Terrie-Anne.

A grateful Terrie-Anne tearfully wrote the following in appreciation (July 20, 2009 at 11:26pm):

The amount of support I have recieded [sic] in the last 2 weeks has amazed me.

The money that was raised on my behalf by Darrin Hodges has been appreciated and I thank everyone who parted with some of their hard earned cash to help a fellow Australian. I have been amazed by the generousity [sic] of my fellow Australians. The strength, support, kindess [sic] and friendship extended to me over the past fortnight has been overwhelming.

I thank each and every one of you have [sic] offered me your support and thrown whatever you could afford into the account, and thankyou [sic] to Darrin for putting it all together and offering me whatever assistance he could.

It is good to know that in times of need, that we can still rally around and offer suport [sic], strength and help to some body [sic] who needs it.

Perhaps the Aussie Spirit is alive and well after all.

Sadly for Darrin, a week later it was announced that ‘Terrible’ Terrie-Anne would be addressing the 2009 Sydney Forum (September 26–27), an annual event organised by Darrin’s arch-rival Dr James Saleam:

Terrie-Anne Verney

Being persecuted and fired from your workplace due to the personal political opinions you hold only happens in totalitarian regimes overseas, it would never happen in Australia in 2009… or would it? Hear a strong and brave young woman talk about how this happened to her in liberal democratic Australia because of her views on multi-culturalism and immigration.

A strong and brave young woman whose presence at the Forum was aided by one of its principal (’white nationalist’) critics! (On the ding-dong battle between ‘Australia First’ (Saleam) and the ‘Australian Protectionist’ (Hodges) parties, see : Dreaming of An Aryan Jeannie : Australia First, Australian Protectionist Parties, July 10, 2009.)

NB. Also addressing the forum will be Andrew ‘I heart blonde hair and blue eyes’ Fraser; Dr. James ‘The Mad Arab’ Saleam; John ‘911 Was An Inside Job!’ Bursill; David ‘I wish we had more like you, Pauline’ Astin; and a mystery guest from the United States (whoever could it be?). (On Astin, see also : Free speech at Crikey?, March 3, 2005.)

Terrie-Anne, Andrew, James, John and David will be joined by Welf ‘Holocaust? What Holocaust?’ Herfurth, Nicole ‘For Blood & Honour’ Hanley, a few dozen middle-aged racists in cardigans, a scattering of ‘national anarchists’, and various other paranoid wackos.

The paranoid wackos of this seedy West London tenement had one thing in common — the conviction that Jews, Freemasons, homosexuals, Gypsies, Jesuits, anarchists and Communist Party members were all agents of subversion under the control of a ruthless global elite directing world events to their advantage…

Govt realises disadvantaged/unsupported youth become extremists

We’d like to congratulate the Federal Attorney General for discovering some major causes* of youth being drawn to racist and violent neo-nazi groups.

Ooops.

McClelland apparently was wearing his ‘only Muslim kids can be extremists’ blinkers…

*sigh*

From the ABC:

Govt seeks answers to stop youth extremism

The Federal Government is considering ways to counter radicalism among young people in Australia.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland is examining community mentoring programs in Victoria and in prisons to find the best ways to stop violent extremism.

He told ABC Radio’s AM program the aim is to stop young people joining terrorist organisations.

*”These programs involve introducing a role model into their lives, working out what pressures they’re confronting, working out what needs to be done to ensure they have every opportunity to succeed, preventing youths becoming vulnerable to extremist teachings, giving them a sense of belonging,” he said.

Racist pub entry policy? The shoes fit.

From the SMH:

Exclusive bar denies access to actor
Eamonn Duff
August 2, 2009

ONE of Sydney’s most exclusive bars has become embroiled in a heated race row with two actors who have shot to stardom in a new movie that tackles ethnic prejudice.

Cedar Boys is an award-winning, gritty urban drama that presents Sydney’s ethnic and social divides through the experiences of three Lebanese-Australian friends.

The movie, which also features Hollywood-based actress Rachael Taylor, is set against a backdrop of racial intolerance and features a scene where the men are turned away from highbrow bars because of their ethnic background.

Life imitated art yesterday when two of the movie’s stars, Waddah Sari and Buddy Dannoun, were refused entry to Justin Hemmes’s VIP-frequented bar, Hemmesphere, located inside Establishment.

Sari, 30, said: ‘‘The film opened in cinemas on Thursday so the following night, we had a celebration at the Havana Club in Oxford Street for cast and crew.

About 1am [on Saturday morning], Rachael [Taylor] suggested we move on to Hemmesphere, so we did. Rachael and others walked in ahead of us. When myself and Buddy arrived, we were refused entry by the security guard. When we initially asked why, they didn’t give any reason … I went on to explain that we were part of Rachael’s group.

‘‘He replied: ‘I don’t care, you ain’t coming in.’ ’’

Facebook racist is multicultural community radio staffer

We here at FDB never fail to be amazed at the sheer dumbness of racists. This particular one tried to lever her positions as a presenter and sales representative at a rural NSW community radio station to impress her racist mates by putting the in-studio photo as shown below on her Facebook profile page.

Community radio stations have a mission, well defined in the Broadcasting Services Act, to serve the diverse needs of their local communities. 2MIA FM has a strong commitment to multiculturalism and devotes several hours per week to ethnic programming, presented by volunteers from various migrant communities in and around Griffith, NSW. 2MIA management were as shocked as we were to find that one of their staffers was an administrator on the ‘Fuck Off We’re Full’ and ‘Australian Protectionist Party’ Facebook groups.

Soon after Asher Moses began developing this story, Ms Verney set about deleting as much of her racist tripe as she could from Facebook. She very quickly withdrew from her Administrator positions on ‘FOWF’ and ‘APP’. Verney was definitely proud to be a racist bogan on the world-readable Facebook- why is she running scared when the equally world-readable Sydney Morning Herald comes-a-callin’?

Racism is an unacceptable civic behavior under any circumstances but it is particularly so when one has been entrusted with access to public assets like community FM radio broadcasting.

Ms Verney attempts to excuse her racism by claiming she’s a ‘patriot’. Verney’s entitled to her own opinions but she’s not entitled to her own facts nor dictionary definitions. Verney doesn’t like non-whites and Muslims- she’s a racist and a bigot. Verney expresses her small-minded beliefs on those issues in the public sphere. That makes her a racist activist.  If Ms Verney happens to be a patriot, she can be that simultaneously, but being a patriot does not preclude nor excuse one from being a racist.

We hope that the Griffith Community FM Association gives very close consideration as to whether or not Terrie-Anne Verney possesses the good character required by ACMA for a person to be entrusted with access to a community broadcasting facility. We at FDB do not believe she does nor will in the foreseeable future.

NB: Many thanks to the dedicated denizens of the Australians Against Racial Discrimination (AARD) Facebook group for their assistance and support in researching this story.

Multicultural radio presenter linked to anti-immigration Facebook groups

Terrie-Anne Verney

A presenter for a NSW community radio station that specialises in multicultural programming has been reprimanded after she was revealed to be an administrator of several racist, anti-immigration groups on Facebook.

Terrie-Anne Verney, a presenter and sales representative for Griffith FM radio station 2MIA, was the administrator of the group “F— Off, We’re Full” and had also joined several Facebook groups including “Stop the Islamisation of Australia while we still can”, “Australian Conservative United Party”, the “Australian Protectionist Party” and “Australians against Multiculturalism”.

In posts on the site she ridiculed foreigners who did not have a good grasp of English, claimed the Islamic faith was destroying the Australian way of life and said that attacked Indian students should go back home to study.
