London Police implicated in 1979 death of NZ anti-racism activist Blair Peach

From TV3 NZ:

Secret British report into Kiwi death to be released

British police are to finally publish a report this week into the death of New Zealand teacher and anti-racism activist Blair Peach at a demonstration in west London in 1979, which is expected implicate former officers.

The Press Association reported prosecutors have completed a review of the document and passed their findings back to the Metropolitan Police.

Relatives of Mr Peach have been campaigning to obtain a secret internal review of the killing for many years.

Some 2000 pages of documents are expected to be released, including the previously secret police report drawn up months after Mr Peach’s death which concluded that the blow which killed him was likely to have been struck by a police officer on duty, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

NZ far-right: going nowhere at Mach III

From The Press - Christchurch NZ:

The murky politics of the Right

By John McCrone
Mainland feature writer
The Press - Christchurch

The country’s hardcore Right-wing factions look like they mean business. It’s just that their business never gets off the ground. JOHN McCRONE reports.

——————–

With a slightly self-conscious smile, the tattooed skinhead, New Zealand flag draped over his shoulder, places a flyer in my hand. Then he and his small rag- tag group continue their quiet parade around the sunny, tourist-filled streets of central Christchurch.

So this is white power, neo-Nazi politics, skinhead malevolence in 2009? Up in Wellington, the National Front’s annual rally drew larger numbers, but was a similarly subdued affair.

The anarchists and anti-fascists, the loyal leftie opposition, did not even bother to show up. With no confrontation, no aggro, the skinheads were reduced to wandering the streets, shyly interacting with the public, passing out their leaflets railing against immigration, multiculturalism, and threatened changes to the national flag. The TV cameras, finding no action, fast got bored and melted away.

White power was looking very much yesterday’s news in New Zealand. But then came the other events of the day. A first surprise was the sight of former National Front leader, Christchurch mayoral candidate and marae fire- bomber, Kyle Chapman, back in the thick of things at the Wellington Cenotaph gathering.

It was only last May that 38-year-old Mr Chapman renounced his white power activities following his marriage to a devout Mormon. Mr Chapman moved from Christchurch to live with his wife on her lifestyle block outside Hamilton.

Yet Mr Chapman says the pull of the movement - the importance of its ideas, the camaraderie of his mates - proved just too strong. “I never really gave it up,” he admits. So there he was with the troops again, split from his wife and full of plans as leader of the new “skinhead survivalist” faction within white power.

Mr Chapman says he wants to spread his Right Wing Resistance, a skinhead “community security” group he claims already patrols Christchurch, across the country. He also wants to build up his Survive Club, a military skills training squad which has been carrying out combat exercises with paint ball guns and ex-army Landrovers in preparation, he says, for the predicted collapse of society.

In a time of desperation and panic there will be no room for pussies, says Mr Chapman: “We want people who will not only stand up for themselves and their families, they have to stand up for the other club members and their families.”

Going even further, Mr Chapman has been fundraising to found a Nationalist Land Base, a protected skinhead commune with long houses and vegetable plots, somewhere in North Canterbury. A “unified mini state for like-minded Europeans”, as he describes it.

Kyle Chapman prepares for “Moari terrorists”

In the wake of 17 people from Maori activist and environmental groups being arrested in NZ recently for some sort of “terrorist” conspiracy, former National Front leader Kyle Chapman has begun organising public “meetings about terror Issues” with right-wingers around New Zealand.

Kyle wants to discuss “Moari terrorism and how we as a movemnet would react to it” [sic], and “police crack downs and how we can protect ourselves from them.” He’s put a posting, readable by all, on white supremacist website “Stormfront,” but states the meetings are only for those who know him.

Well, we know him. It seems a bit rich that Kyle is concerned about “Moari terrorism” (Note: Kyle’s not big on spelling!)

Let’s take a look at Mr. Chapman’s background.

IronBrotherhood eats his spinach; grows into respectable member of society

Way back when, in early 2005, the Australian wing of the New Zealand National Front began operating in Sydney, Austalia - and, depending on who you asked, they were allied to the openly neo-Nazi White Pride Coalition of Australia or they were allied to the less openly neo-Nazi Patriotic Youth League.

As it turned out, they were in bed with both, and FDB’s birth was largely as a response to this international co-operation between these Australian and New Zealand far right groups.

One of the senior figures in all this was Darren M.

Darren was the founder of NF Australia, was a member of the WPCA, and for a while was listed as the Sydney president of the PYL. The whole thing got very messy, with accusations of paedophilia from the NF (since retracted and apologised for) and threats of litigation from us, and eventually NF Australia was “blown out of the water” and it’s members mostly dropped out of the scene.

At the conclusion of the mess, Jim Saleam wrote a rather fanciful account of the affair which was disputed by both FDB and Darren. To put it bluntly, the mad old bastard made the whole thing up.

That was around a year ago. Besides the virus we were recently sent that appeared to come from Darren (the email address had been spoofed - it wasn’t actually him) we had not heard nothing from the guy since he dropped out of the scene, so it was very refreshing to recieve a message from him the other day telling us that he’d gotten his life back on track.

Lovely. For those who are not familiar with the locale, this Wikipedia entry may help.

And how has their completely legal campaign been going so far?

As far as we can tell, it consists of a single racist graff attack.

Maybe attack is too strong a word.

Kerry Bolton versus Mrs I B of Fielding

The email has been busy with people sending in responses to the Nazi Party graphic that Bolton has been using to illustrate posters and leaflets for his assorted “nationalist” groups. Thanks to all those who sent stuff in. One that we knew about was the Renaissance Press catalogue on the website of the National Socialist Movement (USA).

The National Front, Renaissance Press and Nazi propaganda

The NF says it bans Nazis from its ranks, but seems perfectly comfortable for a prominent member, who until recently was National Secretary, to use an openly Nazi organisation to promote his books. It’s not like it is some old remnant of Kerry’s dodgy past; the booklist has been updated in the last couple of months or so. For a start, the name “Kerry Bolton” has been removed from the Renaissance Press address, although the PO Box given is still the same as that used by the NF. Then there is the cute “disclaimer”, which says that the books are now there for students who can “exercise maturity and rational judgement”. That counts the majority of NF members out then. It looks like all the Nazi, fascist, satanist and corporatist books
are all still there though.

Hang on a minute, did someone say “corporatist”? That’s right; when Bolton was National Secretary he claimed that the NF was opposed to a corporate State, but then he continues to sell books promoting the idea. He promoted the idea of the corporate State when he was running the Fascist Union too. It appears that with every group he is involved in he just recycles the same graphics, general ideas and flags, with some slight variations. Seems he is yet to make up his mind as to whether corporate is good or bad. These days when we hear the word “corporate” we tend to associate it with ‘Big Business’. The original idea of the Corporate State was a bit different though.

Kyle Chapman to step down as NF leader

A few days ago we received unconfirmed reports that a restructuring of the New Zealand National Front has resulted in Kyle demoting himself from “Director” to “Chairman of the Governing Committee,” a position which he says gives him much less responsibility.

We believe that this is the first step in Kyle’s eventual exit from politics and far right activism. Kyle says he is “happy” and “feels free”. He also says he will hand over the reins to someone else once he feels they are used to the responsibility.

Again, we must stress that all of this is unconfirmed and could very well be a pack of codswallop.

If it is the case, what could be the motivations behind this. Kyle’s latest spam update on the NF mailing list closed off with a paragraph on how stressed and flustered he has become in recent months due to an upsurge in activity by “the enimy”.

Soap star supports march against National Front

Li-Ming Hu, who stars as Doctor Li-Mei Chen in the Kiwi soap Shortland Street, believes racism is a “significant problem” that needs to be confronted. “There is a lot of ignorance and misinformation about racial minorities,” she says. “Marching against racist groups like the National Front is a vital way to bring the issue to the public eye.”

NF spitter gets 120 hours’ community service

National Front organiser Terrence Tomlinson, 51, has been sentenced to 120 hours of community service after spitting at a 57-year-old man of Maori and Indian descent. Speaking outside the court, Tomlinson explained how the National Front can claim not to be racist: “As far as I’m concerned the National Front isn’t racist. They have a view about the Chinese coming into New Zealand and say it has to stop some time.” Singling out certain immigrants based solely on their race is racist, Terrence.
