Alleged KKK attack in Griffith

From the Sun-Herald:

KKK people threatened us: Aborigines
Denis Gregory
May 18, 2008

POLICE are investigating claims a group of young Aborigines were threatened by a man armed with a tomahawk and wearing full-length Ku Klux Klan garb.

Members of the group say that about 1am last Saturday, as they were walking home in the Riverina town of Griffith, the man jumped out of a black utility truck and waved the tomahawk at them while yelling racial obscenities. They say another man emerged from the truck wearing a black balaclava and the female driver of the ute also began fighting, with one of the female Aborigines.

The group claims that when police arrived, the men pulled off their garb and put it in the back of the truck.

Police arrested six group members who allegedly turned on them and punched a policewoman. Three were charged with affray and other offences, with interviews continuing.

The incident has enraged the local Aboriginal community. Spokeswoman Lynette Kilby said the youth tried to explain what had happened but the police “didn’t want to know”. “They arrested the young people and let those in the truck go,” she said.

From the West Coast Sentinel:

Klan graffiti
28 March 2008

Offensive, intimidating racist graffiti with American Ku Klux Klan overtones was sprayed over buildings at the Far West Aboriginal Sporting Complex at Thevenard over the Easter long weekend.

A road sign at the junction of the Eyre and Flinders Highways east of Ceduna had a similar offensive message sprayed on it and there were reports of a fence and a toilet block near the Thevenard slipway also being hit.

Some of the graffiti, sprayed in green and white paint, makes reference to “niggers” and threatens that they will “die”.

Aussie KKK “not sorry”… yet…

What a wanker.

An Australian member of one of the KKK’s umpteen franchises decided (February 1, 2008) to upload a video on to YouTube giving his opinion on the recent decision by the KRudd Government to issue a formal apology to the thousands of indigenous peoples who
constitute the Stolen Generations.

Let’s go to the polls!

From Crikey:

How will a Stalinist, a Satanist and a KKK member vote?
Cam Smith writes:

There’s allegedly an election coming up. The regrettable consequence of this is that newspaper editors suddenly care about the opinions of people in wishy-washy electorates like McMillan and Eden-Monaro. If the names and occupations of those people start with the same letter as their electoral division, so much the better - Oh, Benny the Butcher from Bennelong is concerned about housing prices and rising inflation! How dreadfully clever. Born of a need to fill space and a sick fetish for alliteration, canvassing voters in marginal electorates is easy. What’s trickier is canvassing voters in the margins of society. To this end, Crikey went looking for a Satanist, a Stalinist and a National Socialist to see which way the truly marginal would be voting.

White supremacists targeting Queensland

From the Oz:

KKK offshoot targets Australian cities
By Simon Kearney
May 07, 2007

THREE Queensland cities have been targeted by offshoots of the Ku Klux Klan over the past two months in what appears to be a recruiting drive by white supremacist groups.

Toowoomba was targeted first by leaflets that asked people to become a klansman or klanswoman in March.

Shortly afterwards, Cairns was targeted and then Rockhampton, last month, by a different group, Storm Front.

In Toowoomba and Cairns the pamphlets promoted the US-based White Legion Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

Its website has an Australian page featuring propaganda presented as fact about African and Asian immigration, Aboriginal crime, the homosexuality agenda and - an old favourite - Jewish influence in the media.

The KKK took my perspective away

By Cam Smith, a campaigner with the anti-racism group Fight Dem Back

The news last week that a Ku Klux Klan group (The White Legion Knights of the KKK) was attempting to recruit in the Queensland city of Toowoomba via a leaflet campaign has been blown somewhat out of proportion and is just a little bit pathetic. Surely a proper Invisible Empire would never do anything as tacky as sticking propaganda (American propaganda! Very UnAustralian) under people’s windscreen wipers. It’s just not the done thing.
