Semi-literate racist blogger advising Lib MP

Remember this chap? We do hope he’s learned how to spell since 2006 - then again, nobody ever claimed the Liberal Party was a meritocracy. Roll tape!

From the Herald Sun:

A FORMER Liberal candidate embroiled in a racist blog row is now an adviser to a state MP.

Gary Anderton published material maligning Aboriginals and his Indian doctor on his blog in 2004. He ran as the candidate for Lyndhurst at the 2006 state election.

Details of his blogging were reported, and he apologised.

It emerged yesterday that Upper House Liberal Inga Peulich had since hired him as an adviser.

Mr Anderton told the Herald Sun he had been wrongly criticised.

But copies of his blog record him attacking his Indian doctor as stinky and declaring “the majority of Australian Aboriginals have a drinking or physical abuse disorder”.

Details of the entries are no longer on his website.

But at the time, he lamented visiting an Indian doctor “that absolutely stunk and obviously received a full-fee degree”.

“In other words, no idea,” he is quoted as saying. He also lamented the size of welfare handouts to Aboriginal children.

Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu said Mr Anderton had apologised and moved on.

“I understand Mr Anderton unequivocally apologised for his comments and repudiated the comments at the time. Racial abuse is unacceptable under any circumstances,” he said.

Mr Anderton had no involvement in the most recent scandal involving Liberal staffers Simon Morgan and John Osborn, who were involved with a site run out of Liberal HQ that branded Mr Baillieu as incompetent and lazy.

Mr Baillieu said he’d be happy if a report on that scandal, to be made this week by incoming state party director Tony Nutt, were made public.
