THE decision handed down at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court against two Ocean Grove Football Club players has not ended what is a racist matter.

From the SMH:

Liberal shame over fake pamphlet
Phillip Coorey, Chief Political Correspondent w/ Paul Bibby
November 22, 2007

THE Liberal Party was flailing last night after a senior NSW party official and the husband of outgoing MP Jackie Kelly were implicated in a dirty tricks campaign involving race hate in Ms Kelly’s former western suburbs seat of Lindsay.

The ALP has written to the Australian Electoral Commission demanding action be taken after Ms Kelly’s husband, Gary Clark, and NSW Liberal Party state executive member Jeff Egan were caught distributing bogus pamphlets in Lindsay portraying Labor as sympathisers of Islamic terrorists.

One Nation? Racist? Amazing!

From The Age:

One Nation’s ‘racist’ leaflet
David Rood, State Political Reporter
November 21, 2007

A FLYER by One Nation’s candidate for Bruce electorate, Neil Smith, has been condemned as racist and xenophobic for claiming that Glen Waverley has been turned “into a suburb of Beijing”.

The leaflet, distributed to about 3,000 homes in the south-eastern suburbs electorate held by Labor’s Alan Griffin, calls for a “100 years moratorium on coloured immigration”.

“That treacherous Liberal party has turned Glen Waverley into a suburb of Beijing and instigated the genocide destruction of our WHITE AUSTRALIAN IDENTITY,” it reads.

Both the Liberals and Labor have preferenced One Nation last for tomorrow’s poll, but Family First have put Mr Smith above Labor, the Democrats and Greens candidates on their how-to-vote cards.

Let’s go to the polls!

From Crikey:

How will a Stalinist, a Satanist and a KKK member vote?
Cam Smith writes:

There’s allegedly an election coming up. The regrettable consequence of this is that newspaper editors suddenly care about the opinions of people in wishy-washy electorates like McMillan and Eden-Monaro. If the names and occupations of those people start with the same letter as their electoral division, so much the better - Oh, Benny the Butcher from Bennelong is concerned about housing prices and rising inflation! How dreadfully clever. Born of a need to fill space and a sick fetish for alliteration, canvassing voters in marginal electorates is easy. What’s trickier is canvassing voters in the margins of society. To this end, Crikey went looking for a Satanist, a Stalinist and a National Socialist to see which way the truly marginal would be voting.

From the Hobart Mercury:

Blade-wielder’s race slur
Maria Rae, Law Reporter

A WOMAN told an Asian exchange student to “go back where you come from” before stabbing him in Hobart’s bus mall.

Samantha Margaret Scorse, 18, of Berriedale, used a pair of scissors to stab the 15-year-old student in the arm while trying to rob his mobile phone.

She later told police while it was “disgusting” to rob a 15-year-old she thought all Asians were “slanty-eyed dogs”.

Bigots : Make your vote count!

Hey, right-wing racist! On November 24, do you know who to vote for?

Leaving aside the crackpot followers of Lyndon LaRouche (as well as a few cranks within the major parties), other candidates in this year’s Federal Election on the (far) right include:

1) The Wicked Witch from Ipswich

Pauline Dancin’ Hanson is running for a Queensland Senate seat this year, yet another attempt to Unite Australia under her flatulent banner. She apparently has some chance of succeeding (although her running-mate, David Saville, has none), thanks in part to Family First (and for which thanks is ultimately due to a handful of hacks in the Victorian ALP), but most likely won’t be using the Upper House to moan about Muslims anytime soon. And to prove it’s not all about her status as the Mother of the Nation, Pauline’s Party is also standing two losing candidates in NSW: Brian Burston and John Carter. Of course, pitted against the ex-convict and her associates in the race for the racist vote is:

Australian Restoration Party late for the party

From the SMH:

White rabbit politics
Damien Murphy
November 10

The Australian Restoration Party. Never heard of it? That’s because it is late for a very important date, November 24. Supporters couldn’t get their act together and plan to start up next year and lead the charge against creeping republicanism in the advent of a Labor victory.

“The Australian Restoration Party is as its name suggests. Its purpose is to set about restoring our rights and freedoms - those aspects of the ‘Australian way of life’ that we have gradually been robbed of in the past 50 or so years, by atheistic and agnostic politicians and bureaucrats who … have all but torn to shreds our basic, fundamental, orderly and intelligent way of life,” said its founder Jackie Rose, a Victorian schoolteacher. The last time we spotted Rose she was in the lunar right Confederate Action Party, which disintegrated after claims of unethical conduct and unaccounted finances.
