Man accused of race hate arson
3rd July 2007A 26-year-old man is to appear in court today accused of a race-hate attack on a delicatessen in East Victoria Park that caused $500,000 damage.
The East Victoria Park man was charged with arson in circumstances of racial aggravation. He also faces a burglary charge.
Police suspect racist graffiti was daubed on the walls of the premises and cash, cigarettes and a computer were stolen before a fire was lit on Sunday.
Fire and Rescue crews called to the blaze on the corner of Mint and Carnarvon Streets about 3.30am found both the business and an adjoining house significantly damaged.
Detectives arrested the man yesterday after raiding a house in Cardiff Street, East Victoria Park.
