Oh, they were thinking factional nonsense

Ken Aldred is one classy bloke. Buying into forged far-right documents (they made about as much sense as the Protocols, to be honest) is one (fairly dense) thing.

Reading those documents out in Parliament is another.

What a dill!

So, how did he get pre-selected again after suffering a well-deserved political death all those years ago?

Andrew Landeryou reckons it was factional shenanigans. He may be right - if anyone knows factional shenanigans, it’s Andrew.

See here for Landeryou’s background on Aldred and oh say about here for the factional gossip.

From the Sydney Morning Herald (c. 6/6/1995… wait a minute… 665 + 1 Jew = 666 omg! konspiracy):

Imagine a man cunning and corrupt enough to link the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad, the Russian KGB, the military dictators of Surinam and the South American drug cartels of Colombia in a grand conspiracy, to earn himself $US640,000 ($895,000).

But a man dumb enough to sign a receipt for the money.

If you believe Liberal backbencher, Ken Aldred, the secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr Michael Costello, is such a man. Then again, why should you believe Ken Aldred? No-one else does, except perhaps for a few paranoid types, with
imaginations as fevered as his.

His own parliamentary leader, Mr John Howard, and the Opposition spokesman on Foreign Affairs, Mr Alexander Downer, certainly don’t. Yesterday Mr Howard apologised to Mr Mark Leibler, the Melbourne tax lawyer and big wheel in the Melbourne Jewish community, whom Mr Aldred named as the Mossad connection.

Intelligence sources told the Herald they believed the document carrying Mr Costello’s “signature” for receipt of the money, was a fake. Yet Mr Aldred is sticking to his guns.

From behind his goggle-like glasses, Mr Aldred looks out on a world full of conspiracies and dark international secrets, a world where sinister forces are watching and listening to us all, where respectable citizens are not what they seem, where the cold war has never really ended, and where the price of freedom is eternal, paranoid vigilance…..
