Embracing your heritage can be fun!!
The world is a crazy, crazy place, and sometimes all we have to make sense of it is tradition. Being proud of your roots can be part of understanding how you fit into the world, can inspire you to do great things, etc. etc.
Also, geneology is a fun hobby that will keep kids out of pool halls and the like, smoking cigarettes and reading Captain Whizbang’s Fun Book.
Some people go a bit nutty with this concept, though.
Perhaps you have heard of a little thing called White Supremacy?
Basically, it’s all about how White people are superior to non-White people (and also Jews, quite a few of whom are actually rather pasty looking).
There’s a few people in Australia who are into this white supremacy lark.
You might have heard of this one bloke, Jack Van Tongeren. Boy, he was really into it.
So much so, that he started firebombing Asian restaurants.
Pity he was part-Asian.
There was this other bloke too, a Jim Saleam. He was a bit of a goer for this bizzo as well. Burnt down a bookshop, hired a few blokes to do some poor black bloke in - a real Aryan superhero, our Jim.
Pity his pop was a “Man Of Middle-Eastern Appearance.”
Seems like it would have been a bit less awkward for those blokes if they’d done their research before they got started.
But hey, they didn’t have us on their side! And for a low, low fee we’ll research any Nazi’s history that’s wanting it! Quiet, quiet… I think I see a mark now.
I say, you there, you there with the dull gaze and the slackened jaw, step right up, step right up, what’s your name, son?
Ben, eh? What’s that? Ben Weerheym?
Well, let’s look into your family history, Benno, and see if we can’t find nothing of interest. Weerheym, eh? Nice name - what’s that? It’s the anglicised version of the Dutch, Weerheijm, isn’t it? And that’s the Dutchified version of the German, Wehrheim?
Wow, you have a family crest and everything! That looks right ancient!

Wait… wait… what have we got here. Ah… sorry.. it appears that crest was made up by the village of Wehrheim in the 1950s.
Hang on, I think we’re on a winner here! What’s this? What’s this?? RIGHTO!
A dictionary of German names of some sort! Wehrheim is in here!
This looks well researched… Seems it took over 10 years to compile and over 300 sources were used.
Have a squiz through the dictionary of German-Jewish surnames sometime. You might find a couple you recognise.
Aaaand… you might want to pack the swastikas away and leave the spraypaint at home before you go to Synagogue next… You do intend on embracing your true heritage, don’t you?
Who’s next!
