VICTORIA Police’s security intelligence group is working with other agencies to investigate the suspected religious hate crime against Melbourne Islamic leader Yasser Soliman.

Mr Soliman yesterday said a number of leads were being pursued into last Thursday’s vandalism attack at Mr Soliman’s home - the first known attack at a private residence of an Islamic leader in Victoria.

Mr Soliman said since the attack, in which the windows of two family vehicles were smashed, he had recieved support from government and religious leaders, including Christian and Jewish communities, and from members of the public.

“I’m very grateful for that and so is my family,” Mr Soliman said.

He said police had yet to confirm whether it was a religious hate crime or random vandalism.

Mr Soliman recieved harassing phone calls before and after the attack.
