Young Mayor condemns racist vandalism

Mayor of Young Gerry Bailey says he is appalled by the racist vandalism in Young’s Chinese Tribute Garden.

Early last week vandals used considerable force to knock over a large bronze statue of a flying horse and etched racist comments into a pergoda nearby.

The statue was a gift from Young’s Chinese sister city and is now being repaired.

Councillor Bailey is urging residents to help police find the perpetrators.

“We’d welcome any news from anybody in the community that would bring these people to task,” he said.

“It’s a community problem and we all need to work to make our communities free from this sort of thing to try and stamp out this problem that is not only costly but very disturbing to communities.”
