That is …stories relating to Jack Van Tongeren that have appeared on various avenues of the ABC (Aunty, geddit? Aunty Jack).
Anyway.
See here for some stuff from The World Today and see here for some blame shifting. See here for a video and here and here for some MP3’s.
Like everyone, we’re filthy that Jack was granted bail in the first place. Excuses were put before the court in regard to Jack’s mental state and a problem with rectal bleeding. Jack’s mental state is probably the main issue he wound up in jail in the first place, we find it highly irregular that his being mentally unwell was used as grounds to get him out of jail.
We’re also filthy that the police were unaware that Jack and his mate Matthew Billing had done a ‘Harry Holt’ until four days after it happened.
You would think that his not reporting at the local police station for one day would be cause enough to check on him ASAP, not four days later.
It only takes three days to cross the Nullabor.
