Teens hunted human prey

Two teenagers have pleaded guilty to firearms charges after driving around hunting human prey on Auckland’s North Shore one July afternoon.

Jason M, 18, sat in the front seat carrying an imitation M16 military-style semi-automatic air rifle. He dressed in black and wore a full balaclava.

South African-born Ross Baumgarten, also 18, was driving.

When they stopped in The Esplanade, Castor Bay, M jumped out and hid in bushes. A woman sat in her car nearby. He fired two to three shots, with one of the air rifle’s plastic pellets hitting her windscreen.

It was about 4.20pm on a Wednesday.

Baumgarten later told police he had driven Molloy around the North Shore while he shot at pedestrians.

M and Baumgarten have pleaded guilty to two firearms charges relating to the July 21 incident: unlawful possession of an imitation firearm and presenting an imitation firearm.

The teenagers will be sentenced in North Shore District Court in November. Both are on bail. Molloy’s bail conditions were relaxed yesterday. His nightly curfew now begins at 10pm, instead of 7pm.

Both are former members of the National Front movement, says national director Sid Wilson, but the group condemns the incident. No criminal actvity was condoned. The Front’s reputation had been damaged by the pair.

Baumgarten had been expelled from the group because of the shooting incident. M had resigned from the group three months before because he did not want career prospects damaged by an association with the group, Mr Wilson said.

National Front aspires to be a political party, but has been dogged by perceptions that members are right-wing, racist extremists.

Ross Baumgarten wasn’t just a member of the National Front, he was their youth representative. Jason M wasn’t just any old member either, he was their webmaster.

Close followers of the Fight dem back campaign will be very much familiar with the antics of Jason M as not a week goes by without him threatening to shoot us.

It turns out that we were too hard a target so he and Baumgarten decided to go around shooting unsuspecting innocents at all hours of the night.

An incident such as this reflects the true nature not only of the National Front but of most followers of white supremacism and neo-Nazism. A group of sad, vindictive, isolated yet dangerous individuals who are quite frankly capable of anything.

This is why Fight dem back exists.

It should probably also be noted that Ben Weerheym referred to Jason M and Ross Baumgarten as proud “kiwi patriots”.

Yep, hiding in bushes and shooting women with air rifles.

What a couple of brave, upstanding chaps they are.
