Can you reason with a racist?

Just a little something from within the FDB forum that we feel needs a bit more exposure.

A couple of days back, a fairly reasonable sounding person going by the name of “Malicious Faith” began posting on the forum:

I am a reformed neo-nazi. Reasons amongst myself and the guys caused me to drift away from the nazis, not the ideals. So I am very much still a tainted, racist person. Mine is definitely more concentrated though, because of personal experiences. I am not as out-spoken about my hate as I used to be, however under polite discussion, I do reveal more. I was pointed out to this website by the guy with the red braces from the Sydney forum, a good mate of mine and an all-round nice guy (believe it or not). After reading some of the updates, I have been influenced enough to take action and make some posts.

When I left the Neo-nazis, I would still hang out with them, minus red brace, bomber jacket, red laces etc. and I have been witness to some of the WPCA movements many times. It never ceases to amaze me the hatred that goes on between Darp/FDB and the WPCA/Neo-Nazis. I don’t take any action in both parties movements, and there is no way that I wish to add fuel to the fire.

In fact, that’s all FDB is doing. Adding fuel to the fire of the Nazis. There is hardly any good that is coming out of FDB’s movements. By the disturbance of the Sydney Forum, there was no positive gained. Rather, fuel is being added to the fire, and racial hate is pretty much stronger than ever.

In no way am I saying get rid of FDB or anything like that, but Darp and FDB are targets for what could be a very violent attack from Nazis and the WPCA alike. I’m not clairvuoyanting a future, but the WPCA and the Neo-Nazis are VERY aware of who you all are.

I’m fence sitting for this one. When you get pulled one way, you are going to get shot in the back. F*** that.

But, what I can say is this, the most hardened facist will listen to what you have to say, as long as you approach him with reason, listen to their opinion and not totally disregard them as a person. Many times I saw the update page with insults to fascists and nazis, this only strengthens their beliefs.

I guess that is a fairly veiled way to convey a threat and be a nice guy at the same time.

This thread went back and forth a bit until our friend Benedict the black unleashed this concise and powerful rebuttal:

Just my 2 cents worth. If there’s anyone who prefers to reason rather than resort to violence, it would be me. But let’s look at this logically. From the short time I’ve come to know FDB, it’s clear that FDB is here as a reaction to the actions of fascists. As far as I am concerned, fascists have been adding the fuel. And the absence of groups like FDB has only encouraged nazis to keep dishing out the same shite without any fear.

I don’t think the nazis are pissed off because FDB provokes them; they’re pissed off because there’s retaliation.

Apparently it never ceases to amaze Malicious the hatred between FDB and WPCA. You’re kidding right? This is the friggin’ 21st century; it NEVER, EVER, ceases to amaze me that in this day and age, a person can be HATED because of his race!!

Approach a nazi with reason and listen to his opinion? Would a nazi prefer to approach a Sudanese woman and her child with reason and listen to their opinions and not disregard them as people? Or would they rather round up a few of their mates and go Sudanese-pelting, with eggs and potatoes as their preferred weapons?

Malicious Faith makes it sound like fascists would rather talk about their beliefs than resort to violence. I wish the 3 fascists, who threatened to beat the crap out of me because I dared to be this colour, were reasonable people. Or the racist who spat at me as he got down from the same bus I was travelling in.

Personally, I would be more than happy to discuss and reason with a nazi; but I will not be satisfied with ending the discussion by agreeing to disagree. I want to see the demise of racism. Plain. Simple.

We liked it.
